Code of Conduct

The Quick Version

Sailsconf is committed to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. Harassment of any kind is not tolerated.

Sexual language and imagery are not appropriate in any conference context, including talks, workshops, social events, or online platforms like Twitter. Violations of these rules may result in sanctions or expulsion from the conference without a refund, at the discretion of the organizers.

The Detailed Version

Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

  • Offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, or technology choices.
  • Display of sexual images in public spaces.
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following.
  • Harassing photography or recording.
  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events.
  • Inappropriate physical contact or unwelcome sexual attention.

Expectations for Behavior

  • Participants asked to stop harassing behavior must comply immediately.
  • Sponsors must adhere to this policy. This includes refraining from using sexualized images, activities, or materials. Booth staff (including volunteers) must avoid wearing sexualized clothing or creating a sexualized environment.

Consequences of Violations

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, organizers may take any action deemed appropriate, including issuing a warning or expelling the offender without a refund.

Reporting Issues

If you experience or witness harassment, or if you have other concerns, please notify a member of the conference staff immediately. Conference staff can be identified by their branded clothing and/or badges.

  • Connect you with local law enforcement.
  • Arrange an escort to ensure your safety.
  • Provide any other assistance to help you feel safe during the event.

Scope of the Policy

All attendees, speakers, sponsors, and staff are expected to follow this Code of Conduct at all conference venues, workshops, and related social events.
